Founded by cellist and conductor Yuri Turovsky, I Musici de Montréal is a chamber orchestra of 15 musicians that presents a vast repertoire from the baroque to the contemporary. Its busy worldwide schedule includes over 100 concerts per season. Since its beginnings, I Musici has maintained an exclusive recording contract with Chandos Records of England and has, to date, release 43 CDs. Under the visionary direction of Turovsky — who also performs as a soloist — the group has performed in some of the greatest halls in the world, including N.Y.'s Lincoln Center, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, and Kioi Hall in Tokyo to name just a few.
The centerpiece of their local performance will feature Mussorgsky's Pictures as an Exhibition performed with choreographed paintings by artist Natasha Turovsky. The company travels with digital projections of these 15 large pictures inspired by the original Harmann paintings that themselves inspired Mussorgsky's timeless music.
Their performances have earned rave reviews... from The Independent of London calling them "The incredible String Band," to The South China Morning Post (Hong Kong) declaring, "I Musici de Montréal is a decided virtuoso group," to N.Y.'s Stereo Review, stating they play with "whiplash precision and tension."
